Multi-taskers of the world, unite!
by J.J. on Apr.03, 2010, under iPad Apps, iPad News, iPad Rumors
To whom ever said “If you try to do two things at once, you do neither” I whole heartedly agree. In this day an age if you’re not doing at least four things at once you’re not accomplishing anything. We are a society of multi-taskers like it or not. Although I do agree that there are just some things that should not be done together. I’m looking at you, lady who got arrested for shaving her bikini line and driving. Put the razor down.
So if the iPad is “revolutionary” than shouldn’t it be capable of multi-tasking? I can’t listen to Pandora while typing up an email. I can’t have Twitter open at the same time that I have a browser open. If you saw how many things are open on my Macbook right now you’d know just how much I do all at once. This is by no means a deal breaker for me as I expect to use my iPad less in situations where I am in need of juggling multiple tasks. I would typically do that level of intensive work at home on my Macbook. But I would like the option to be able to. And if the iPad is going to have a shot at truly replacing my Macbook in most situations, it will have to be able to multi-task.
But there is good news on the horizon for those of us that love to juggle:
First of all a new app called Splitbrowser allows you to split your iPad screen into two web browsers which you can then resize. I find I do most of my multi-tasking when browsing, so this is an app I will be using constantly and it’s only $1.99.
Secondly, it’s been widely rumored that the next OS update for iPhone (and thusly for iPod Touch and iPad) will include multi-tasking. One of the things that I really like about these devices is that you can safely purchase the first version knowing that there will be software updates. That means the device you originally purchased is constantly improving and becoming more and more effective at fulfilling your needs. I was an iPhone owner from the get go and while I was frustrated that the device didn’t have a copy and paste function I was thrilled with all that it did offer. Well, now it has a copy and paste function and I’m all the more happy with it. I expect we will have the same experience with the iPad. Will it do everything we want it to do? No. Will it be great at what it does do? More than likely. Will it continue to improve. Most definitely.
Note: Opting to wait for the 3G means I have major iPad envy today. We will continue to bring you news, updates and announcements in the coming weeks despite our sadness over not having our new toys iPads yet.
