Facetime for iPad

by on Jul.22, 2010, under iPad Rumors

Have you had some Facetime? It’s pretty impressive. I’ve held off on getting my iPhone 4 to see how this whole “death grip” thing pans out, but that hasn’t stopped me from appropriating my friend’s iPhone 4′s and making video calls.

Well, BGR is reporting that Facetime will be making its way onto iPads and iPod Touchs very soon along with this photo that is supposedly from an iPod Touch.

For iPod Touchs and iPads which do not have phone numbers

the Facetime will operated with email addresses.

It seems like a very wise move on Apple’s part to get Facetime on as many devices as possible and as quickly as possible if they want to penetrate the video calling market that has already been established by Skype. While Facetime is truly a fantastic video calling experience right now those calls are limited from one iPhone 4 to another iPhone 4 provided both phones are on wi-fi making it more of a novelty feature than a true video calling feature. But as Facetime makes its way on more and more devices it will become a viable competitor in the video calling market.

I think this is just one more nail in the coffin of cell phone calling. I think the future revenue stream from existing wireless phone companies will be entirely data plans. As of right now I have unlimited calling on my iPhone or iPad through the VoIP app Line 2. Not that I make calls from my iPad mind you. But I could should my iPhone battery die at an inopportune time. I’ve felt for awhile now like VoIP calls were going to be the future and who ever could provide you with the best device and the best data plan with access to VoIP calling both voice and video calling would come out on top. It’s sure going to be interesting to see how things play out over the next few years.

Has anybody here seriously experimented the iphone 4? How are generally the features? I must say i wish to acquire one for myself nonetheless I’m truly hesitant concerning the antenna trouble. Any idea when Apple’s going to remedy a repair?
