DIY Publishing

by on May.12, 2010, under iPad News

The internet has meant great changes for independent musicians, filmmakers, photographers and other artists, but until now there have not been any significant changes in publishing. Could the iPad help bring about that change? Surely, you’ve seen that the iPad is an eBook reader and surely you’ve seen that you can read books in the ePub format, a free and open eBook format. So for up and coming writers whose immense talent has not yet been recognized by the publishing world there is a huge opportunity to put your words into the ePub format. This means that although your writing may not make it onto the literal bookshelves of the world just yet, it could make it onto the iPad’s bookshelves.

300,000 and counting

by on Apr.05, 2010, under iPad News

Many analysts were predicting sales of 700,000 so when faced with those numbers the iPad did less than half of expectations. Compared to the launch of the previous two versions of the iPhone which each did over a million sales day one, the iPad seems to have underperformed.

Or maybe it really was a huge success. We have to remember . . . continue reading

Why do you want an iPad? Part 2

by on Mar.31, 2010, under iPad News

“I pre-ordered a 32GB 3G after looking up e-textbooks.
Next semester I have a history course that has five books, weighing a total of about 15 pounds and costing about $500. The e-versions could fit on the 0.5 pound iPad and cost a total of $225. That pretty much sold me on it!” – Derek

“I have one on reserve for next Saturday. My main use for it will be for web, mail and note taking and such in meetings at the office. I’ll use it at home for casual web surfing and emails. Don’t need the 3G model, I have the iPhone for that. eBooks is where I will be spending money…” – Scott

Why do you want an iPad?

by on Mar.31, 2010, under iPad News

I want the world
I want the whole world
I want to lock it
All up in my pocket
It’s my bar of chocolate
Give it to me now – Veruca Salt (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)

We want to know why do you want an iPad? What model are you getting? What will you use it for?

“I’m getting the 64GB 3G model as soon as it’s available. I’m going to use it mainly to read ebooks and browse the interactive emags.  It’s a wonderful media consumption device and it is the first true bridge to the new media (print/interactive). I decided to wait for the 3G model because I don’t want any limitations to where I can use it when I’m traveling. I’m tired of all the space books take up.  If everything can be stored on a device and quickly accessed I won’t need to clutter my life with physical books. ” – Kristopher

“I am getting an iPad. 3g 64 gig. I think the iphone is too small and I think my macbook is too heavy. A perfect thing for coffee shops. I can browse the internet, read, and distracted by email. Perfect all in one, so I won’t have to fumble from thing to thing. ” – Shilla . . . continue reading
