The President of Nintendo says Apple is “the enemy of the future”

by on May.14, 2010, under iPad News

As the iPad launch drew closer it was becoming obvious the iPad would prove to be a game changer in the arena of tablet computing, but I don’t know if anyone expected it to be quite as much of a game changer in . . . well, gaming. The iPad delivers a rich gaming experience and there are already more apps in the gaming category than any other category on the app store.

Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo, has reportedly told his senior executives recently to regard the battle with Sony as a victory and move on to Apple, and its iPhone and iPad devices, as the “enemy of the future”. Nintendo has long had great success with it’s mobile gaming devices including the current Nintendo DS, and the iPhone and now iPad are looking to cut into that revenue. In fact, the company admitted yesterday that net profit for the fiscal year ended March 31 fell 18 percent to $2.5 billion, the first drop in six years. And recently Nintendo Games expert, Matt Casamassina was recruited to Apple to lead the charge in the gaming department.

It will be interesting to see what moves they make to combat the threat they see from Apple. And it will interesting to see what happens as Apple continues to add more games to the App store.

Games are clearly dominating the iPad app store. In fact, analysts Distomo did the stats and there are 833 game apps compared to 21 finance apps.

Why do you want an iPad?

by on Mar.31, 2010, under iPad News

I want the world
I want the whole world
I want to lock it
All up in my pocket
It’s my bar of chocolate
Give it to me now – Veruca Salt (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)

We want to know why do you want an iPad? What model are you getting? What will you use it for?

“I’m getting the 64GB 3G model as soon as it’s available. I’m going to use it mainly to read ebooks and browse the interactive emags.  It’s a wonderful media consumption device and it is the first true bridge to the new media (print/interactive). I decided to wait for the 3G model because I don’t want any limitations to where I can use it when I’m traveling. I’m tired of all the space books take up.  If everything can be stored on a device and quickly accessed I won’t need to clutter my life with physical books. ” – Kristopher

“I am getting an iPad. 3g 64 gig. I think the iphone is too small and I think my macbook is too heavy. A perfect thing for coffee shops. I can browse the internet, read, and distracted by email. Perfect all in one, so I won’t have to fumble from thing to thing. ” – Shilla . . . continue reading

How Much Memory?

by on Mar.28, 2010, under iPad News

“640K is more memory than anyone will ever need” – Bill Gates (1981)

Well since just one eBook alone would fill up 640kb, let’s just acknowledge that Bill Gates was clearly wrong and move right along. (On a side note, supposedly, Bill Gates denies ever saying this quote. I have a lot of things I wish I could deny ever saying too, Bill)

The iPad’s two models (Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G) will each come in three sizes:
