Apple sues Samsung!

by on Apr.18, 2011, under iPad News

It looks like top dogs are fighting for dominance again.

apple sues samsung

The words “copyright” and “infringement” are being thrown around by Apple. They claim that the Samsung Galaxy and the Galaxy tab are the spitting image of the iPhone and the iPad. Specifically, the lawsuit says, ”Rather than innovate and develop its own technology and a unique Samsung style for its smart phone products and computer tablets, Samsung chose to copy Apple’s technology, user interface and innovative style in these infringing products.”

Now I have on several occasions mistaken a Samsung Galaxy for an iPhone but does that justify a lawsuit. We’ll have to wait and see.

Ironically, these two companies are not just competitors they also have a business relationship. You see, Apple uses Samsung parts in their devices. Awkward!

by on Aug.15, 2010, under iPad News

But probably not like you would imagine it.

hugh hefner ipad

It’s straight from the Hugh’s mouth so it’s likely true. Since we know that Steve Jobs intends to keep the iPad free from porn, Playboy will have to do without the bunnies. So for all of you that read Playboy “for the articles” you should be very excited.

Facetime for iPad

by on Jul.22, 2010, under iPad Rumors

Have you had some Facetime? It’s pretty impressive. I’ve held off on getting my iPhone 4 to see how this whole “death grip” thing pans out, but that hasn’t stopped me from appropriating my friend’s iPhone 4′s and making video calls.

Well, BGR is reporting that Facetime will be making its way onto iPads and iPod Touchs very soon along with this photo that is supposedly from an iPod Touch.

Impressive numbers.

Putting your iPad to work for you

by on Jul.15, 2010, under iPad News

The gang over at TiPB is running a contest and they want to know how you use the iPad for your job. This is a great little contest to enter, but it’s also fun to head over to their forums and read through some of the entries. Check it out!

From their site:

“We want some real life stories, some real world experience. We want to know what it’s like to use the iPhone in your line of work (and yes, being a student or caregiver or stay-at-home parent or even… politician, counts as work!)

1. Tell us what your job is.
2. Give us a paragraph or two describing how you use your iPad during your workday. Tell us the *story*.
3. Share any tips or tricks you might have come across. What about the iPad makes your job easier?
4. List the top 5, must have apps you use to get that job done.

And… That’s it!

We’ll be picking one reply every week or two and including it in a post right on the front page of TiPb.com. If/when your post gets picked, not only do you get your name (or username) up in lights, you get a sweet $20 iTunes gift certificate for your trouble! And yes, we will prioritize based on how awesome, how funny, how tragic, how well written, how inspiring, how disappointing, — generally how memorable your entry is. So bring it!”

The iPad is making appearances all over the White House

by on Jun.11, 2010, under iPad News

the white house ipads

So if you’re wondering why it’s taking sooooooo long for any movement on health care reform or DADT it’s because the entire White House staff is obsessed with Scrabble on their iPad’s. Just kidding. Sort of.

According to the Washington Post everywhere you look in the White House these days you see an iPad. Specifically, almost  everyone in the West Wing office of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has an iPad or an iPad on order. I guess White House security clearance doesn’t get you an iPad any faster than anyone else when there are shortages.

The Post reports “Emanuel just got his, as did senior adviser David Axelrod and deputy press secretary Bill Burton. Both communications director Dan Pfeiffer and press wrangler Ben Finkenbinder have one on order. Economic adviser Larry Summers takes his to staff meetings.”

So of course, the Post wanted to know what apps everyone was using. I mean isn’t that the first thing you ask your friends when you’re talking about your iPads? “Summers has the Bloomberg app for financial information, says adviser Matt Vogel. Also Scrabble. And the first book he downloaded was a free copy of “The Federalist Papers.” Burton, who has been a bit of an iPad evangelist at the White House, has the app for Vanity Fair magazine, Scrabble, a news app and the entire last season of ABC’s “Lost.” Emanuel has “all the newspaper apps,” says a top aide, and has installed the iBooks app so he can read books on the device. Axelrod has only downloaded a couple of apps so far, his assistant, Eric Lesser, said. They include the Major League Baseball app and the National Public Radio one.

There’s no word on whether or not Mr. President himself has adopted an iPad, but we do know in the past his allegiance was to the Blackberry.  But he’s got to be a bit jealous when he sees Joe Biden on his.

News Flash: Gadgets are distracting

by on Jun.07, 2010, under iPad News

The NY Times had a great article yesterday about the effect that our 24/7 access to information through email, phone calls, texts, Twitters and the web via our gadgets is overloading our brains.

nytimes article“While many people say multitasking makes them more productive, research shows otherwise. Heavy multitaskers actually have more trouble focusing and shutting out irrelevant information, scientists say, and they experience more stress.”

At least I think it was a great article, I started to read it and then an email came in that I had to read, which reminded me I needed to return a phone call and then my dog was being extra cute so I had to take a picture and post it to my Facebook page, then it was time to harvest my We Rule crops, which of course made me hungry so I headed over to Yelp to figure out where to go for lunch and then the guy in the car behind me kept honking because the light was green and . . . what were we talking about?
