Apple is working on a patch for iPad Wi-Fi issues
by J.J. on May.11, 2010, under iPad News
Apple has confirmed it is working on a software update to address the complaints of iPad Wi-Fi connectivity issues. Apple claims that only a “very small number” of iPads have been affected, which is likely true but there has been a lot of talk about this small number of iPads that are dealing with weak signal reception, forgotten passwords, and some networking issues. In the meantime they have some troubleshooting tips: . . .continue reading
3G woes
by J.J. on May.05, 2010, under iPad News, iPad Unboxed
Since the release of the 3G iPad there has been much talk of disappointment over the quality of video over 3G being much lower than over Wi-Fi. I’m not exactly sure what all the fuss is about. Did people really think that the iPad was so “magical and revolutionary” it could improve the beleaguered AT&T 3G network? If anything, I expect the opposite. I fear the AT&T 3G network that the iPhone and iPad is imprisoned with, will worsen with the addition of hundreds of thousands of new 3G iPad users wanting to . . . continue reading
Steve Jobs answers our burning questions via email
by J.J. on Apr.16, 2010, under iPad News
Costello: Well then who’s on first?
Abbott: Yes.
Costello: I mean the fellow’s name.
Abbott: Who.
Steve Jobs took time out to answer some emails and even apologize for international delays. As well as give a cryptic answer about US 3G shipping. But he did confirm that the 3G iPads would arrive internationally at the same time as the Wi-Fi only iPads. So at least those living abroad wanting 3G iPads won’t have to see their neighbors getting their Wi-Fi iPads weeks before them.
Emails (and classic video of Abbott and Costello’s Who’s on First routine) after the jump. continue reading
Why do you want an iPad? Part 2
by J.J. on Mar.31, 2010, under iPad News
“I pre-ordered a 32GB 3G after looking up e-textbooks.
Next semester I have a history course that has five books, weighing a total of about 15 pounds and costing about $500. The e-versions could fit on the 0.5 pound iPad and cost a total of $225. That pretty much sold me on it!” – Derek
“I have one on reserve for next Saturday. My main use for it will be for web, mail and note taking and such in meetings at the office. I’ll use it at home for casual web surfing and emails. Don’t need the 3G model, I have the iPhone for that. eBooks is where I will be spending money…” – Scott

If you’re planning on buying your iPad at Best Buy you best be there early. It looks like Best Buy stores will be stocking the iPad on April 3rd, however each store will only have 15 Wi-Fi iPads (5 of each size). To 3G or Not to 3G?
by J.J. on Mar.29, 2010, under iPad News
“My internet browser heard us saying the word Fry and it found a movie about Philip J. Fry for us. It also opened my calendar to Friday and ordered me some french fries.” – Professor Farnsworth (Futurama)
To 3G or not to 3G? That is the question. Apple is offering Wi-Fi+3G models of the iPad or Wi-Fi only. Wi-Fi only will be available on April 3rd. 3G devices will not be available until late April. I think everyone was delighted to see that the 3G service will not require a contract. So users can activate, change plans or cancel at any time all right from the iPad.

Out of iPads??
by Unboxed Team on Mar.28, 2010, under iPad News
Did you pre-order your iPad? If you haven’t pre-ordered yet it’s looking like you won’t have a shiny new toy on April 3rd.
Visits to the Apple website today showed that any pre-orders placed now won’t be shipped until April 12th (for the Wi-Fi only, the Wi-Fi+3G is still showing a late April ship date). If you already pre-ordered you’ll still get your iPad on April 3rd. (continue reading…)
How Much Memory?
by J.J. on Mar.28, 2010, under iPad News
“640K is more memory than anyone will ever need” – Bill Gates (1981)
Well since just one eBook alone would fill up 640kb, let’s just acknowledge that Bill Gates was clearly wrong and move right along. (On a side note, supposedly, Bill Gates denies ever saying this quote. I have a lot of things I wish I could deny ever saying too, Bill)
The iPad’s two models (Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G) will each come in three sizes:
